Associate Research Fellow to the Jacques Delors Institut - Berlin, Politics and Institutions
Valentin is a Research Associate at Notre Europe – Jacques Delors Institute with a focus on politics and institutions in the European Union.
After graduating with a Master’s degree in “Politics and Government in the European Union” from the London School of Economics, he joined Notre Europe –Jacques Delors Institute in Paris in October 2011. Valentin was a Research Fellow until the end of April 2014, having been posted to Berlin since autumn 2013 in the context of the preparations to open the Jacques Delors Institut - Berlin.
With respect to the European Parliament and the May 2014 elections, Valentin has written several smaller articles and his most recent publication is a Policy Paper on the political balance of power in the next European Parliament. In addition to that he is responsible for the coordination of the 2014 European Parliament elections project with think-tanks in 20 EU member states that has been set up by Notre Europe –Jacques Delors Institute and VoteWatch Europe.
Valentin has also done research on the role of national parliaments in the European Union; a Policy Paper on the “Article 13 TSCG” inter-parliamentary conference for Economic and Financial Governance is his latest publication on that subject. He has co-authored a study for the European Parliament (also available as a Policy Paper: National Parliaments and the European Council) as well as written evidence to the House of Lords European Union Select Committee.
He studied at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München and l’Université Paris 3 Sorbonne Nouvelle as an undergraduate and gained work experience at the Center for Applied Policy Research in Munich and the German Historical Institute in Paris. He received a scholarship of the Max Weber Programm Bayern and graduated “with distinction” from the London School of Economics.
