Social Europe

In a context of deep crisis, the Jacques Delors Institute is examining the notion of European solidarity and the effectiveness and limits of existing solidarity mechanisms within the EU.

It is also researching the future of social Europe more generally, by looking beyond the social effects of the internal market to the EU’s actions on employment and the ways in which European integration and EU policies affect national welfare states.

Labour mobility in the euro area: cure or curse?

The unemployment dispersion between EU member states has peaked in 2013. Labour mobility did play a role in reducing these macroeconomic imbalances but was insufficient. Policy options towards higher mobility should be derived from this analysis.
