Pascal Lamy in Les échos: Europe: A future to build together

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, Pascal Lamy, honorary president of Notre Europe, has published an article in the French daily Les Echos in which he exhorts Europe to deepen its unique political project "founded on liberty, ruled by law and leading to peace".

"Nous célébrons cette année le cinquantième anniversaire de la signature du traité de Rome, acte de naissance des Communautés européennes, modèle unique de souveraineté partagée entre Etats. Fruit du rêve de quelques-uns, l'idée européenne s'est matérialisée autour d'une double ambition empreinte des préoccupations des années 1950. Reconstruire une Europe encore convalescente et surtout prévenir toute résurgence belliqueuse dans un continent qui, par deux fois en moins de trente ans, avait été le thé tre de conflits mondiaux. Le succès de ces ambitions est indéniable. Ce projet d'avant-garde est devenu notre quotidien."
