The Union is today threatened by long term and simultaneous crisis and challenges both outside and within its borders. In this new context, it is appropriate to think and conceptualize a realist, credible and effective approach to European Defense.

The Union is threatened: outside by a series of lasting and simultaneous crises and challenges; within by developing terrorism, while new political dynamics cloud the very future of European integration. The Brexit is underway, populist and anti-European movements have been progressing since 2014, especially since the refugee crisis, and the new American presidency raises doubts about the future serenity of the transatlantic relationship.

In this new context, it is appropriate to think and conceptualize a realist, credible and effective approach to European Defense.
