Brussels, 25 February 2016 - TTIP: Where do we stand now?

Print
Send by e-mail

Pascal Lamy, our president emeritus, participates in the CEPS' debate about TTIP negotiations, which have been expected to accelerate, but have been slowed down by political obstacles, as the public ‘debate’ focuses far too much on blanket assertions and prejudices than on reality. In order to be relevant TTIP must swiftly go beyond tariff removal to deal with regulatory barriers in a few key sectors. Investor protection might need to be improved beyond the approach taken with CETA. Will politicians resist going for a ‘TTIP light’ or an ‘early harvest’ compromise?

Discussion Leaders:
Bernard Hoekman, Professor, Globalisation Programme, European University Institute
Pascal Lamy, President Emeritus, Jacques Delors Institute
Moderator: Jacques Pelkmans, Senior Research Fellow, CEPS
