This fictional political skit, realized by Yves Pascouau, Associate Research Fellow at the Jacques Delors Institute and Director of the European Policy Centre, attempts to explore the consequences of the permanent reestablishment of internal border controls in the Schengen area.

In the year 2020, member-states decided to put an end to the freedom of movement of people in its current form.

The implications of this decision on Europeans’ everyday lives are analyzed via the revealing experience of a frontier worker, a tourist, and an economist. The impact of this decision on public finances is also raised through a conversation between the President of France and his Minister of Finance.

This recording was created in cooperation with Thomas Jaussaud, Alexis Desweaf, Frédéric Halkin, Cécile Rolland, and Stéphane Mathé, who graciously lent their voices for this scenario. Pierre-Yves Allain took care of the editing.
